Ecotourism is one of the most obvious opportunities for the Pine Mountain area. Our tour, like any truly successful ecotourism project, will bring sustainable tourism and employment with minimum impact, highlight and promote the natural beauty of the area and bring attention to the threats to this ecosystem. But most importantly, our project will create a new sense of place and pride that will have a ripple effect on the outlook on this area by locals and visitors alike.
The park is just minutes from the Cumberland Gap National Park, the first great gateway to the west, that saw hundreds of thousands of pioneers cross, among them explorer Daniel Boone and physician Dr Thomas Walker. Today the park sees over one million visitors annually.
In addition to experiencing the riveting fun of the zip, you will learn about Pine Mountain’s environment and its connection with America’s development in the 1700s. Pine Mountain Park is located in Bell County Kentucky, an incredibly beautiful part of the country that is currently facing severe economic challenges due to the declining market for coal. Visit the S.O.A.R. website to learn more.
The hardwood forest of Eastern Kentucky represents a sustainable resource that the area can be proud of, however it also faces significant challenges due to invasive species (specifically the woolly adelgid which is killing hemlock trees) as well as poor forestry management.
Pine Mountain Zipline Canopy Tour is so carefully constructed that it is less invasive than a hiking trail. Ours is a tour like no other and you will experience soaring through this atmospheric old growth forest in addition to a bird’s eye view of the mountain and valley below. Thanks to the suspended bridges, staircases and rappel, you will be able to slow down and enjoy unique perspectives of the Honeymoon Falls. Our educated guides will point out natural highlights as well as discussing the area’s colorful history.
